New York Fashion Week Roundup

After New York Fashion Week a month ago I was left inspired. I felt as excited for the near future with the way I will interpret the trends into my own wardrobe. NYFW might be over but this is not the last time we will see these trends and with many designers adopting the see now buy now model many more customers will be wearing the trends earlier.

               Proenza Schouler

Proenza Schouler truly stunned this seanon. Not only was I pleasantly surprised by their almost technological approach to traditional tribal ideas. Vibrant colour was a main aspect of their show mixed with wide neck chokers and tribal inspired earrings the result is an amazing collection.

                          Coach

Tough girls reign with coach. Not only was the tough girl idea featured in all of the looks but coach seemed to remarkably contrast the tough girl aspect with floral dresses and fringe bags. Models walked down th he runway emitting this air of constant tough girl through out the show from the over sized leather jackets to the studded shoes this collection has was the epitome of cool girl clothing.

DKNY

Urbanwear deluxe is represented at public school. From the sock boots and the distressed sweaters to the transparent hooded coat this collection screams street wear. The public school boys have impressed with this rugged urban show.

Tom Ford

Tom Ford has impressed. The extravagant coats are the epitome of luxury. The collection is classy, timeless and incredibly strong. I especially love the coats they seem like the perfect item to complete any outfit.

Opening Ceremony

Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armsien were the official hosts of opening ceremony. They proved banter, humour and commentary to the “pageant of the people” that highlighted issues such as the importance of voting. The clothes featured an inspiring use of ruffles and different colours.

Marc Jacobs

Daydream delight represented by Marc Jacobs. The collection and its overwhelming 1970s look is far too loveable. The girly daydream aspect of the show is strongly contrasted by the colourful dreadlocks worn by each model.

Yeezy

Oversized outerwear was my favourite from the many ideas shown in yeezy. The military feel of the collection was captivating with the usage of his mostly neutral colours idea. Kanye has revolutionized as the nude can exist in more than one shade.

V Files

V files and ground zero in particular was one of my favourite shows. From its clear relation to the 90s  to the extreme Japanese influence the collection. This show was a huge success to me.

HBA

HBA brought out street wear with a twist.Their baggy pants paired with their amazing t shirts just works so well together. HBA created an atmosphere of urban street and it works incredibly well.

Vera Wang

Another show that made use of baggy clothing. Vera Wang showcased a beautifully simple collection. Feathering off the shoulders and extremely long sleeves creates a classical look that I more than enjoy.

Rodarte

Soft, elegant and girly are the words I would use to describe rodartes collection. The use ruffled lace and soft colours automatically remind me of  The 1800s but Rodarte made the show both relevant and easy to wear. Which I admire.

Alexander Wang

Casual cool as I would describe this show. The amazing lacing around the stomach is definitely going to be a huge trend. This show is also very wearable and incredibly versatile.

I admire the use of colour and how the look all seem cohesive.
That’s all for New York.Stay tuned for more.- Tapiwa

No Regrets?

Sometimes I take a moment to stop and reflect. And a common theme of reflection for me is how I’ve changed or remained the same over the past few days, months or years. And when I look back at the state of various aspects of my life it is almost second nature for me to regret something I did. I must admit that regret plays a reoccurring role in my mind and at times it hinders me from performing well which I in turn regret. It can all become a reoccurring theme and it can even consume you fully. And as someone who lived a regret full life I would recommend you to stop take a second , minute or even a couple of days to accept. Accept your past don’t fight it and wish to change it. It has already happened and focusing the smallest amount of energy on the past is a waste. It has already happened focus your energy on the future. Think of what your life will be not could’ve been. This advice might seem strange when paired with an outfit post and in all honesty I have no way of linking the two. I hope that in those moments when regret creeps in you remember that the past can only hold you back if you let it.

Uniform

Basically I go to school and in my school we wear uniform. And come to think of it my entire schooling career has consisted of me wearing some sort of school uniform. Since I no ed frequently when I was younger I must admit that I’ve gone through a few school uniforms. And so I think I’ve had my fair share of uniform experience.

But the point of this is not to reminisce on all of my past uniforms. But to showcase a sort of everyday uniform. An assortment of pieces which are too easy to throw on on those lazier days.

August Playlist

This month my top picks in music are all over the place. Ranging from soft RnB to Futeristic EDM and pop hits. I cant really explain why some of my favourite songs this month consist ofso many genres. But I really don’t mind.

A few months ago I discovered an artist called Nav. And this month I searched deeper into his body of work. And I must say I really enjoy his music with each song better than the last. I strongly recommend him my favourite song of his right now is The man.

Along with Nav I have some Travis Scott and Dapurr one of my favourite artists that I discovered on sound cloud.
Which I also recommend.

Didnt we all think that life would be one big fairytale moment. With a huge makeover in the end? A prince charming maybe? Honestly I dont need or want that. Maybe I should just say that I dont desire that.

I want to be something else. I want to be a strong confident and independant woman. With the rise of the girl boss and woman taking on more and more leadership positions. Positions where we actually get credit for what we do.

And obviously there are still many obstacles woman still face but I feel that it is and is going to get better and a large part of this improvemant is the development of the girl boss.

Recently we celebrated the 60th anniversary of woman’s day in South Africa to commemorate the women’s march to the union building to fight for womens rights. Women of all races joined together a true moment in history.

Those events make me think about what type of woman’s I want tk be. What gender stereotypes do I want to stop. What exanple do I want to set.

I don’t think that words can express how much I love this coat. I found it in my mothers wardrobe and I have not been able to take it off ever since. If you still live with your parents I recommend going through their closets (with their permission of course) might find something you like.

This coat can  dressed up or down but today I chose to style it with a simple but presentable outfit. A simple black top with plain blue jeans tie this outfit together. And of course  a black choker and black sneakers to complete the look.

This outfit screams casual but classy to me. That’s probably why I love it so much it gives me comfort but I also look classy. And by classy I mean that I look like I thought about this outfit for more than 5 seconds.

BRKLYN

This week I’m wearing one of my favorite and most comfortable pair of pants. These pants have been a frequent item in my every day outfits lately. Maybe it’s because they are incredibly comfortable or because they are easy to style. But it’s probably because they are my favorite colour black.

Paired with this beanie that keeps my head warm and adds that little bit of edge to my outfit. To finish the look with a plain white tee and black booties was a decision made easily.

This outfit has made me think about street style. What is street style. What is considered street style. Because when I think about the term street style my mind immediately pictures the rough  and ruff streets of Brooklyn.
Or can street style simply described as style on the streets.

To me street style is style made for the streets. Nothing to fancy but nothing too casual. Scratch that street style is anything you want it be. Dressy casual or just downright pyjamas street style is what you make of it and how you represent yourself through fashion.

Because to me fashion is a beautiful way of representing my inner being. That’s why I have been  questioning my style, and why I put that extra bit of thought into my outfits whenever I leave the house. But always remember to not take fashion too seriously because it’s fun experimental and always changing.
